Vesa is still sitting at the table, finishing off his cup. Just hot water, he doesn't drink coffee all that often - if only to conserve it.
Isak pokes and prods at the cards until they turn back into a deck of fifty-two British cards.
Erkki is babysitting. Seriously. He's watching Henrik while Sonja's and the other Korhonen's are doing something else. Not for anything lengthy mind, they wouldn't be crazy enough to leave the boy to the inexperienced hands of Erkki for long. The Tapper-Rautakorpi scoundrel is tense about this mission, eyes widely watching every move Henrik is doing as he sits on the floor, peacefully playing with his drum, wooden horse and a large spoon, the latter of which he sometimes bangs on the drum when he's not chewing on it. Then suddenly he stands up and toddles over towards Vesa. "BABABABABAABA!" he loudly announces.
Vesa grins a little at Henrik, putting his cup down. He slides off the chair and onto his knees on the floor, holding out his arms towards the mini-Erkki. "Babababa, yourself, Henrik. Come here."
Kaarle seems to be looking over a rifle once, twice, three times, trying to see exactly how the Russian peice of equipment ticks. He'll look up when the child decides to speak up, and watches him move over to Vesa. Awwwww. How could one not be warmed in the soul by that sight! He looks to Erkki and inquires. "A fine child. Is he yours?"
Henrik grabs for Vesa's mug. "Watch that mug!" Erkki immediately warns, he's got some experience with the quicksilver motions of the 1-year old boy. "He's thirsty," he adds, for Vesa's sake. "Bababababa means 'water'. It also means anything else, but right now, I think it means water." He stands up and goes to fill a mug with water for the boy. Kaarle's question makes him freeze and stare at the newcomer with a vein that begins to tick at his temple and his temper carefully held in check. "Sonja Korhonen's boy," he says gruffly, turning back to give the water to Henrik. "I'm Erkki Tapper-Rautakorpi."
Vesa wrinkles his nose at Henrik, moving the empty cup back out of the kid's reach. "Oh, I get it. You just come over here when you want something." The teenager's Finnish has a noticeable Russian accent. He sits back, grasping Henrik's hands as the boy gets closer. "Erkki's getting you some water, you've got him trained pretty good." He grins at the child and then his head turns, looking over at where Erkki went to wait for the new mug.
Isak is sitting in the corner, poring over a mass of wiring. Finally he nodded, looking over the wires and chuckles. "That is where it went." He glances up at the voice of the little one breaking the near silence and the way Vesa and Erkki dealt with it, before getting up from the table. "I am surprised." His voice points in the direction of Vesa and Erkki, the pair he's familiar with.
Kaarle looks rather confused at the stare and the reaction. "Ahh… I-I didn't know, you see. I'm new here, so I havn't met alot of people." He stands up and offers a hand to Erkki. "Kaarle Okkonen. Good to meet you. I would assume your doing a favor for the mother and watching the child while she's elsewhere?"
He'll turn to look toward Isak when he speaks, and simply stares at… whatever it is that the man's working on. "What… what /is/ that?" He's never /seen/ so many wires!
"Live mine." Isak deadpans, even though it's half a lie. It isn't live. Either way, he turns then to Erkki and just grins wide. "Slim selection, if you're the one watching over the boy." It would probably start a fight, but maybe Erkki was in a half-decent humor today.
"He's a smart boy," Erkki explains with a grin at Vesa, managing to get some water into the kid without totally soaking him. He sets the mug down on the table in case the boy wants more water later, but Henrik seems satisfied for now, sitting comfortably with Vesa and listening to the adults talking which can be just as fascinating. For some reason he lets out a sudden laugh and squirms back in Vesa's arms, so he can stare up into the ceiling for his own amusement for a bit. "Doing the mother a favor, yes," he agrees with Kaarle. He glances at Isak's work, pondering something. "We'll blow that fuel depot."
Vesa pulls the squirmy Henrik to him with one arm, holding him securely as the kid ceiling-gazes. "Thanks Erkki." He smirks at the toddler, trying to keep him from yoinking the mug down onto both their heads. Then he looks over at the men as the talk turns to the mines, especially Erkki. "We're gonna try again?" He asks, sounding brightly hopeful. Maybe Stalin will get that present a little late after all.
Kaarle pales. "A…A-A-A /live/ mine! Why are you dealing with…" And he suddenly realizes that might have been saracasm. He looks slightly embarassed. "Well, just don't go blowing it up, please? I don't really want to loose my life because someone wasn't careful with explosives. Let the Russians take it, if I am to loose it." A look back to the man tending to the child. "Well… good of you to do so. We must all pull together in these trying times to fight off the invader, after all!" A slight smile, and it's obvious that's being parroted from someone else. "There's a fuel depot near by here?"
Isak chuckles quietly at the new man's sudden fear, and just shakes his head at the last of the comments. "No. Do not 'let' them take anything." With that he turns Erkki's way. "I realized what was wrong the last time. I can work up something better this time, I believe."
Erkki gives Kaarle a blank look, then he snorts and sits down by the table, taking out one of the few precious cigarettes. He doesn't share, lighting one up. "Yeah?" he says, squinting at Isak, then he nods. "Then let's get going. Blow up their fuel, I'll sneak into town and steal some artillery pieces from their bigass gun."
Vesa nods to Kaarle, bouncing Henrik carefully on his knee. "It's in Raatevaara. You know where that is?" He looks back at Erkki and Isak quickly, raising his brows. This is sounding better by the second. "I'll go too," he volunteers eagerly. "I can do whatever you need."
Isak looks down at the boy, Henrik, then back up to Erkki, then back down to Henrik, his statement of 'where you going with the boy still here?' fairly obvious.
Isak gets a tentative nod. "Right… I meant if, if I'd /have/ to loose my life, it'd…" He swallows a bit, and moves on to another topic. "Raatevaara? I thnk. It's close by, right? To the South somewhere? I didn't know the Russians had captured it." He nods. "I'm up for going out and destroy some Red fuel. I should get back out in the war. I havn't done enough."
"It's not close at all," Erkki says with a grunt, standing up and moving over to take Henrik away from Vesa. "Sonja is back soon, we can start getting ready," he says, lifting Henrik up carefully on his arm. The boy and he looks at each other, then Henrik laughs and grabs Erkki's hair in a firm grip, making the adult wince. "Henrik, don't pull my hair, evil brat."
Vesa grins a little at Henrik's reaction to Erkki. He pulls his feet under him, standing up and stretching out his arms. "I'll get my rifle. What else you want me to bring?" The question goes to both Isak and Erkki.
Isak turns to Vesa and reaches up to tap his own temple with a finger before moving toward the table to pick up his tools for working on the mines in Pyyvaara. "You can sneak, Erkki?"
Kaarle nods, collecting his rifle, moving his hand to collect a grenade near where he sat. "Well… I'm up for something of a hike, if it's far enough away. As long as I can be useful." He says, nodding to himself. "Just tell me when we go!"
Jaakko rises and washes out his cup then begins to dress in his outer gear.
Erkki is carrying Henrik on one arm and looking a bit lost, waiting for Sonja to return; he's generously been babysitting while Sonja went on whatever errand, perhaps she was to the Sauna in Pyyvaara or something. "Right. I can sneak, but…" He scratches the back of his head, and then disentangles his hair from Henrik's small fingers with another wince.
Sonja was indeed sauna-ing. She looks rather revived as she reappears, despite being barely recognisable beneath a mountain of fur clothing, with a classy hat perched on top. She looks around the cabin, smiles a faint smile, and then slips in. She's in no rush to reclaim Henrik.
Jaakko gives a half smile as he see Henrik pull Erkki's hair, then continues to ready his gear.
Vesa nods to Isak, turning to grab up his Pystykorva. He pulls the strap over his head and heads to the table to pick up his gloves and hat, his scarf still draped loosely around his neck.
Isak laughs as Henrik pulls on Erkki's hair and turns away to gather up clothing. He looks down and flexes his left hand, glad he's finally got full movement of the thing, and begins to grab up his gear.
Vesa heads out of the cabin to get his skiis on, tightening his scarf before he moves out into the cold.
Erkki puts Henrik down hwoever as soon as his mother is back home and he hurries to start getting dressed. "We're going out," he announces curtly. "He's drank some water and he ate some porridge," he continues. He's the perfect father, really. Henrik shows signs of having eaten - his shirt is all gooey from the porridge and he's wet from having been drinking water. But Erkki tried! He does his best!
Kaarle slings his rifle behind him, smiling once more at the antics of babysitter, mother, and child, before securing his winter gear and moving off, as well.
North of Raatevaara
Vesa skiis after the others, agile in the snow. "Who's going in?" He asks of them. "Isak and Erkki?"
Erkki pauses to get his bearings for a bit, it's been a long trek. "Isak needs support going after the fuel depot, someone needs to cover for him. And someone covers me. Who goes with me?"
Niko skis after the group. He mutters to Vesa, "Remember that sauna north of town? Russian was there last time." He tells the group, "If we're facing town from the forest, it'll be on our left flank."
Vesa nods to Niko. "I remember it." He looks back at Erkki. "I'll cover you." Just to have one decision made. "We got enough for two people covering each of you."
Kaarle stops as they reach the staging point of sorts, panting a bit at the exertion. "Alright. Just… tell me who I accompany. I'll provide as much fire as I can!
Isak holds out a hand in an attempt to calm Kaarle, then looks over at Erkki. "We are set then." He looks over at the new guy and points to the south. "You will follow Niko and Vesa, provide us cover."
Kaarle nods shakily, and looks to the two men indicated, waitng for them to start off, so he can follow. He /is/ a bit jumpy.
Isak looks around, to make sure everyone understands before heading off south on his skiis.
Vesa nods to Isak, then looks back at Niko and Kaarle. "Let's get into position. Little closer, then move as quiet as you can." That more for Kaarle than Niko, of course. The latter knows the drill.
Niko mutters to Kaarle, "Don't think too much about this. It'll be over soon." He smirks. The small man raises his voice and says, "I have ammo if anyone needs it. Stock up now or forever hold your peace."
«Ground Combat» Vesa moves South <S>.
Erkki moves after the others, holding a hand up. "Niko and Jaakko go with Isak, you do what Isak tells you to do," he says. "And you," he says and points at Vesa and Kaarle, "lay low north of town and cover for me if I am detected."
Kaarle keeps moving as quickly as he can, nodding to the man in charge. "Okay. Lay low in the north, and cover. I-I can do that. Fine."
Jaakko nods understanding.

Niko nods to Erkki. He points to the southeast. "Remember, check the sauna for Ivan."

Vesa tugs his hood more securely about his head and face, only his gray eyes showing in the white he wears. Moving more quietly now he continues southward.
Jaakko whipsers to Isak, "I'm to follow you chief."
Erkki grins at Niko and nods. "Alright, one of you keep a lookout to the east when we move into position south of here," he warns Vesa and Kaarle.
Vesa nudges Kaarle with his elbow. "Keep an eye out east. I'll keep attention to the south."
Isak merely grunts and nods acknowledgement to Kaarle, then turns toward Erkki for a moment, as if seeking confirmation before running south.
Kaarle nods, and he looks to Vesa. "Do you want to do that, or will I- Ahh! Alright!" He's not the one to take initiative at this point, one can tell.
Vesa grins a little at Kaarle behind his scarf, then looks back at Isak and Erkki, waiting for their go-ahead to continue southwards.
Erkki simply nods at Isak to get moving and then he starts moving as well.

Vesa skiis down into their position north of Raatevaara. He snaps off his skiis and finds a snowdrift to conceal himself in, setting up his rifle and peering into the town.
Niko points to the east. "If it's clear, we should cut east and enter the eastern part of the town from the north," he tells Isak. "Better than having to sneak through the entire town."

Kaarle arrives in a crouch, going low after removing his own skiis. He's breathing a bit hard, now, and it probably isn't from the exertion. He wipes his glasses off just a bit, as he attempts to check east. "What? Are we moving again?"
Erkki is a white shadow in the foresty area north of his hometown. He's not been here in quite awhile and he's looking rather determined to give the Russkies a severe blow. But hey, it's all about luck in the end.
«Ground Combat» You notice Isak arrive at Forest.
Niko points to the east. "If it's clear, we should cut east and enter the eastern part of the town from the north," he tells Isak. "Better than having to sneak through the entire town."
«Ground Combat» You notice Jaakko arrive at Forest.
Vesa squints into the town, whispering to Erkki and Kaarle. "I see two so far. Both in Dr. Korhonen's house." He peers a bit more, trying to see if he missed seeing anyone down there, then shakes his head to Kaarle. "We're staying here."
«Ground Combat» You cannot lookout until the Armageddon Clock has ticked 77 times.
Isak skiis up to a tree and rests behind it for a moment, quietly peeking to the south, searching for his objective.
Kaarle looks nervously to the north, but only for a second, before turning back to the east. "I… I can't see anything right now."
Jaakko whispers to Isak, "what you have in mind?"
Isak snarls quietly, then turns to his pair of escorts, leaning out just enough to be seen before waving to the east.
Vesa hmms quietly, eyes searching the visible areas. "Still see just two down there, Erkki." He confirms.
Erkki is looking eastwards too. "Can't see anyone in the sauna," he murmurs, "but that doesn't mean they're not there." He begins carefully turning to look southwards again.
Niko whispers to Kaarle, "Let's hope you're right." He manages a chuckle. "Easier on Stalin's birthday, when they were singing his praises. Oh well, live to die." He begins skiing to the east.

Karrle stands up, and looks back toward the north. "I-I think he's saying we need to get out of here. Back toward the North!" He's looking franctically in that direction as it seems he wants to start moving, but something's holding him here.

Erkki makes a grimace. Seems he might not be seen, but his comrades are. "Let's go," he says calmly. This mission is already a failure and it's time to get the hell out. He points northwards.

Niko crawls back into the brush and hisses, "They spotted him. God help him, he didn't even have his head down. Both objectives were in the eastern part of the city."
Vesa slides further back in the snowdrift as he sees Niko ski up. The shooting at him's stopped at least. He sighs quietly, getting his skiis back on quickly.

Vesa frowns as the machine guns still fire to the east. "Who on earth is still standing over there?"

Niko says, "The guy who didn't remember to stay low and move slow." He continues crawling north, muttering, "Russians spotted him right when he stepped into the clearing and opened up. One machine gun, two assisting. Your artillery and fuel depot are in that section, unfortunately."

Erkki curses at that. "Well, we can give it another try," he suggests. "We can move in from the south."
Vesa looks back at Erkki, still keeping his head low. "If you want…"
Erkki takes a look eastwards and sees that Jaakko has been shot down. "Well, we've lost Jaakko," he says fatalistically. "Don't know where Isak is at the moment. Let's circle to the north and around, it'll take awhile but if we move fast we can do it."
Vesa nods. "Okay. I'm right behind you." He stands carefully and very slowly, not attracting any more Russian attention as they start moving.
«Command from Erkki» We move north and east and then circle around to the south. Isak, you and I move in together into town.
«Ground Combat» Vesa moves North <N>.
((Vesa, Niko, and Isak get into position south of Raatevaara. Travel spam.))
Niko pants, trying to catch his breath. "We made it," he mutters. "Now comes the hard part."
Vesa waits for the other two to be ready, giving Niko a bit of a grin. "Hopefully they'll still be trying to look to the north."
«Ground Combat» You notice Erkki arrive at Grass.
"Hopefully," Niko says "they're also freezing their asses off more than I am. But I doubt it. In their cozy homes, those Russians. In OUR cozy homes."
Erkki is like a whirlwind on skis! He'd win races, for sure! Here he is, catching up. Sort of.

Back at the cabin…
Niko lays on a cot. He has put himself on his side, so as to get pressure off of his gutwound. Blood continues to seep out of his chest wound, however. His rifle is unslung and he has it clutched in a death grip. "At least… they didn't… get my hands," the small man coughs. He attempts a smile. Niko's eyes look around. "Where's Vesa?"
Gustaf hurries with the rest of the volunteer doctor and nurses… or anyone else who has medical training… to deal with the influx of casualties from the recent action. He quickly moves first to Niko, and assesses the man's wounds for a moment.
It's a sorry lot that returns, but also triumphant. The fuel depot was blown up. In a fit of pure nutcasery, Erkki snuck into town in the last instance out of sheer /spite/ and stole those artillery pieces right under the nose of the russians. He's helping dragging the wounded back, with mixed emotions about the mission.
Niko repeats his question. "Where's Vesa?" he croaks. "And Isak?"
Isak finally makes it back to the cabin, kicking off skiis as he makes it to the doors, doing a mental headcount.
Erkki drags Vesa back, not sure how bad off he is. "You are nuts," he tells Isak, shooting the man a reluctantly admiring look.
Isak turned a glare on Erkki, but that softened into a reluctant shrug. "I could not fail again."
Vesa is half-conscious, having gotten knocked hard in the head with something or other, though not damaged too badly it seems. There's blood but nothing that'll keep him down. He stumbles as Erkki brings him in, thumping down on a pallet somewhere.
Gustaf pats Niko on the shoulder. "You will be fine. The doctor can patch that up easily enough." He continues tending to the left chest wound.
Niko coughs. "Can't breathe," he says. Blood pools on the bed behind him, and his chest struggles to rise. His eyes lock onto Gustaf's and he mutters, "Thought I was dead. Told them to leave me, but they didn't listen."
Erkki gets all the gear tucked away soemwhere for later use. "Everyone's fine," he assures Niko. "Well, sort of. You look like shit but you're tougher than people think so I'm sure you'll be dancing on Christmas." Right, Christmas is a few days away.
Gustaf smirks at Niko. "Well, if they did leave you out there, the cold would have frozen up your wound so you'd stop bleeding." What an insensitive joke. He tries to clean off the still flowing blood with a white towel, but fresh blood keeps replacing the blood he wipes off.
"You know what I want for Christmas?" Niko asks. "An outhouse built over that machine gunner so I can shit on him for the rest of my life." He coughs, wipes his mouth. "I think it went in and out," he mutters. "There's a hole in my back, too… but at least they didn't get my hands."
Gustaf frowns as he attempts to place gauze over the wound, but it only fills up quickly and he discards it quickly. His next attempt is to stuff the wound with gauze. "Yes, a through and through is good in the way that we wouldn't have to dig for that bullet," he notes. "You probably won't be joining any future fights for a while now."
"I'll see what I can do," Erkki dryly replies to Niko about the outhouse. He gets some coffee going on the stove for himself and whoever else wants some.
Gustaf stands up and calls for a doctor, who comes right away to inspect Niko. The doctor whispers directions into Gustaf's ear, and then proceeds to examine the wound more closely. Gustaf quickly veers off to speak with a volunteer nurse to assist the doctor. They both return, and Gustaf nods to Niko. "You'll be fine," he reassures.
Niko nods, leaning back. He closes his eyes. "That's good to hear," he mutters as he struggles to breathe. "Very good to hear." He coughs. "Thought I was dying…" he passes out.
