Finnish long range commandos raid a small Soviet airfield. Their objective: the three Chato fighters sitting on the ice of a frozen lake. Despite outnumbering the Soviets 2 to 1 in the initial phases, the Finns get truly greased for a change. Which goes to show :-
Patience is a virtue
Sasha keeps the machine gun trained towards the frozen lake where the aeroplanes are parked, watching for any intruders.
Sergyev is looking west, not towards the Chatos, lazily leaning back to rest his head, collar buttoned tight, holding the rifle idle.
Arseniy is on the officers mess with his fellow pilots, knocking back some vodka. He doesn't even realise Sergyev and Sasha are out there freezing their asses off for his protection. All men are equal, but some men are more equal than others, comrade.
Sasha scans the horizon across the frozen ice, keeping alert and on guard. No indication he's spotted anything to be concerned with yet, though.
Sergyev watches west, but he's not as much the concerned soldier as Sasha is. This comrade's of simple peasant stock, and tends to only make an effort when someone in charge is there to directly order him to. Still, he'd rather shoot a Finn than freeze, so he does manage to keep watch towards the west.
Arseniy remarks to Jermija, "It's a terrible thing, comrade, these fascist pilots, and these little biplanes. They should send us some I-16s, those things are too old now.".
Jermija nods, and swills some warming vodka down. "They are giving those things away to China, to aid Mao's revolution, so I hear. It must only be a matter of time before we get the good stuff. I wonder what the monoplanes fly like. I have heard good things about them.".
Sergyev peeks with a slight turn of his head towards Sasha, slowly drawing out his hand to reach for the other's pack to slide his hand into the rucksack. His expression is a cocky little smile, watching to be sure the machine gunner doesn't notice.
Sasha doesn't notice. His focus is down the iron sights of the machine gun, watchful for any movement near the fighter aircraft.
Arseniy nods. "Me too. I hear the group who tested them in Spain did very well, drove the fascists from the sky wherever they met them.". He sips at vodka, and mutters. "I wish they would send us the good stuff, this tastes like engine oil.".
Jermija notes, "You would probably drink engine oil if you had to, comrade…".
Arseniy shrugs. "True!".
Sergyev leans a bit, working his hand under the flap as he feels for anything interesting.
Sasha calls out, "Alert! The lake! Attack on the planes!"

Jermija rushes to the windows with his compadre. "What are you shooting at comrades???" he shouts through the door. Which is ajar. Its cold out there.

Sergyev jerks his hand back, turning with quick reaction to look at the ice.
Sasha speaks louder. "Finns attacking aircraft!"

Sasha calls over, "One Finn body on ice. Another limped off, west."
Sasha adds, "His leg's shot, so the dogs can catch him!"
Vasili sighs. "We don't have any dogs, comrade - only frostbite. The dogs suffer terrible casualties, you know. The Finnish fascists are no animal lovers.".
Sergyev forms a big smile, and offers, "The rats will feast. Do you have any vodka, comrades? Let the Finns run, we will celebrate!"
Sasha scowls back to Sergyev, turning to fix his attention on the aircraft.
Mikhail nods at that. "We have some vodka, indeed, Comrade!". What Russian truck does not? "Are the Finns gone for good?".
Sergyev calls back, "Gone till we hunt them in Helsinki, yes?" and grins again. "This trench is not so bad. You'll freeze there in the open."
Sasha hand trembles on the trigger guard, trying to hold the DP 27 steady.
Sergei shakes his head. "The trench looks as cold and miserable as the rest of the country.". He eyes the buildings. "That building there looks much warmer." he observes, pointing at the mess.
Sergyev nods, and offers back, "Glorius pilot officers do not share their vodka so much. The barracks, for us hard-working peasants, yes?"
Arseniy shakes his head. "Thats for pilots, Comrade! The People have provided for the soldiers with that fine building over there.". And he points at the rather piteous looking barracks. Then he eyes Sergyev.
Sasha snarls with a glance to the pilots mess. "Shut up or you'll get us in trouble, comrade!"
Sasha snarls that to Sergyev.
