Born John Pith to Lt. Zane Pith, John grew up with tales of his father's heroics during the first world war, where he stormed the enemy's trenches and personally took three germans prisoners in the outskirts of Arras. To this day, John Pith carries his father's Military Cross with him.

He earned his nickname during his stint in the merchant marines, where he learned his trade of ship's mechanic. An alcoholic, the man did quite severe damage to his liver over the years and as such, his skin has a disgusting hue. Once Poland fell, he quite his posting and immediately signed on for the Navy, getting posted to the HMS Viperous, where he works mostly in the engine room, watching the boiler.
