Sometimes a map is available of the land around you. Sometimes it isnt. It isnt available in the rare building which is a room and not a place, or in locations we have been lazy at.


The former shows a map by terrain type. The latter shows a map by elevation (ie, contours, hills and valleys). The elevation map is a little odd in that the room you are currently in is always height 0. Areas of higher elevation are red, and lower elevation is green. The number shows the height difference. This makes it immediately obvious which areas are higher than you and which are lower.

Running up hills is slower than running down them. Also you gain a small bonus when firing downhill, and incur a small penalty when firing uphill.
