This is a true tropical jungle. Life is all about you - vines coiling around hardy trees, snakes slither through the thick undergrowth, birds of paradise chatter from the branches up on high. But in truth this is no paradise. Dim even during the day due to the thick growth, seemingly wet and stiflingly humid all the time, disease ridden mosquitoes swarm to suck the blood of human intruders to this very foreign land.
It is currently dawn.

The break of dawn is anything but silent after a very long, bloody night of fighting at the Ilu river. Just before the sun came over the horizon, another wave of Japanese troops had swarmed the trenches, this time attempting to flank the Marine positions by wading through the ocean surf and attacking up the beach into the west bank area of the creek bed.
The Marines responded with heavy machine gun and artillery fire along the beachfront area, again causing heavy casualties among Ichiki's attacking troops and causing them to abandon their attack and withdraw back to the east bank of the creek. For the next few hours, the two sides exchanged rifle, machine gun, and artillery fire at close range across the sandbar and creek.
Finally the Japanese, crushed by heavy losses and either unwilling or unable to withdraw fully, find themselves pushed back to a small coconut grove east of the river. At daybreak, the Marines found out how they were to proceed…
Tavua sits on the edge of the trench, peering at the log that just looks to be staring right back at him. Stop looking at the swan!
Woods manages a smile at Tavua here and there, perhaps with a newfound respect for the island's natives. Even Woods' smile is no longer permanent though. He takes a deep breath and looks up out of the trench.
Slayback walks up and notices the exchange going on between the log and Tavua, "Heh. Natives." He shakes his head and just keeps on walking until he finds a nice place to sit down.
Enders is in the Trench, hunched over his rifle, looking pensive. He's covered in mud and apparently has been fighting. But at the moment he's had a rest and is ready to get back into it, being healthy and gotten more ammo.
Quaid is seated in the trench, M1 Carbine across his lap, smoking a cigarette now that it's daybreak.
Kappedal has been very busy over the night, after returning from hauling wounded back to the aid station. As the fresh battlion's gathered, he's been on the back line patching up those Marines still able to be on their feet - which is damn near everyone who hasn't taken a bullet to the heart.
Tavua stares at the log some more, recoiling after a moment, ~IT JUST MOVED!~ he cries, fumbling for his rifle, bwaaah kill it! Kill it!
Woods blinks and looks at Tavua, "Move…?" He seems confused, still unable to quite master the language. Woods reaches out to set a hand on Tav's shoulder and steady him. Woods looks a little nervous. Well, he looks little ALL the time but…
Enders looks over to the Native, blinking, "Wha?" He mutters, but as someone tries to calm him, he goes back to his internal musings.
Captain Christie makes his way up the line, looking rough after a long night's battle. "All right, men, listen up. The Japs have been pushed back, but they're far from beaten. We think they're holed up in the forest just across the river there. Well, we're not going to let them just lie up in there all day. In a few minutes we're going to push across the river and hit them hard. The 1st Battalion is going to be crossing up-river and hitting them from the south. We're also going to have arty and air support pounding them, and tanks bringing up the rear. Let's mop 'em up, boys."
Tavua looks to settle, breathing, "I ok, I ok." he says to Woods, grunting, shaking his head, "Need more sleep…" he adds, grunting as he looks towards the rising sun, "Everything happen at night here."
Woods seems happy as Tavua looks to settle. He gently pats Tav's shoulder and smiles. He nods at Tavua, "Tell me about it." He goes quiet as Captain Christie speaks. Woods' bright green eyes are attentive. Seems easy enough. Mop up duty's something he can handle.
Kappedal finishes wrapping up some dude's twisted ankle, giving him a pat on the shoulder that's meant to encourage the shellshocked young Marine. As the soldier moves off to reload his rifle, the corpsman stands up and jams some fresh gauze into his pack, buckling it down.
«Game» The enemy is near… Guadalcanal is now a war zone!
Enders looks to the Captain and nods, readying himself for this.
Quaid looks up at the Captain. "Sir," he mumbles, without much enthusiasm. He flicks his cigarette away and sighs, then begins checking over his gear, making sure his weapon is loaded and he's stocked up on ammo. As an afterthought, he grabs a pouched belt of BAR magazines and puts it on. Spare ammo never hurt anyone.

Christie continues on his way, presumably to rile up more troops, leaving the details to the lieutenants and sergeants. The platoon is quickly given their orders, which basically amounts to: go east and kill.
Tavua rolls a little outisde the trench, standing as he looks about at the others quietly, seeing if a plan will get hashed out this time around.
Woods nods habitually at the Captain. "Sir!" Then Woods looks to Tavua, and murmurs softly, "They've been beat up pretty badly. We'll have help. But it comes down to go east and finish off those there. They … usually don't surrender." He climbs out of the trench too after a moment.

Slayback nods as he hears the news and says, "Neato gang." He chambers a round into his rifle barrel and starts to limber up for combat, "So, how you guys holding up?" is asked of Enders.
Quaid wanders over to where the familiar faces are. "Hey, Vinny," he says. "So, Captain didn't say where we were supposed to be going exactly, did he?" He glances east, frowning.
Enders looks to Slayback, "Getting ready to move out, Mack." He says, then to Quaid, "East of here, pal." He starts slinking along, quietly.
Kappedal climbs up out of the trench, boots skidding on the mud. His helmet casts a slight shadow down over his eyes from the sun that's rapidly climbing in the east.

"Don't hear any arty or air," Quaid says. "Maybe we keep marching east, wait for the fireworks to start?"
Kappedal heads along in the rear of the formation, hiking his kind-of-short way through the river as quickly as he can to keep up. His pistol's pulled out of its holster and kept above the muddy flow of water.

«Ground Combat» You notice Slayback arrive at Beach.
Enders keeps moving, quietly, slipping through the river, keeping his rifle high as he moves, eyes keeping a lookout.

Almost on cue come the naval guns, firing hard just east of the moving battalion.
Quaid grins as he hears the thumping. "Looks like that's where they are," he says. "Shall we get moving, boys?"
Woods goes wide-eyed, "You wanted fireworks?" Woods jumps and grins. He steadies himself after a moment, looking over to make sure all are coming along. He offers a hand to Slayback.

Quaid is creeping low, eyeying the trenches. Looks clear. A nod to Tavua. "I think I'll circle around to the southeast," he says, voice low. "Here looks like a good place for base of fire. I could assault from the south so we hit 'em from at least two sides. Sound good?"

Woods comes up from behind with Slayback. Woods pauses, hearing the vehicles. "Huh, guess they were serious about mopping up." He creeps up in time to hear Quaid and listens. He nods, "Sure, you can give signals if you need to," Woods whispers. "Hand signals," Might be easiest for Tavua too.
Tavua gives a nod to Quaid. Bringing his rifle up slowly.

Kappedal does what he can on Slayback's chest wound, which isn't very much. His teeth are chattering and hands shaking, though he's barely noticed the blood blooming down the front of his uniform quite yet. He grabs more gauze and tries to wrap the man's hand between shots.

Slayback hears a shot ring out, "I think someone's to the north!" He's managed to slightly control his labored breathing.

Kappedal is still bleeding through the bandaging he tried to wind around the ribcracking bullet. "Where's that coming from?"

Slayback starts moving his rifle barrel to point north. Moving the gun has never been hard for him, but this time he's got a bullet in his lungs.
Woods shakes his head, "I can't tell. I think Quaid, Tav and Enders circled around too."
Slayback decides to fuck it all and he falls down face-first onto the muddy trench floor.
Tavua looks around, "Hmmm?"
The tanks are busy cleaning up after the infantry push, tracks grinding through the bloodsoaked sand and dirt, over both the living and the dead.

Woods explains quietly, "Enders and Quaid are taking a look. Quaid is in a shack, Enders with him. They'll be coming back, then we're gonna get you guys to the Aid station - or get a jeep here." Where - Woods looks around. "Shit, I forgot the radio."

"Tanks got a radio," Quaid says as he appears from behind a tree. "Just a bunch of dead japs back there… you ain't seen nothing until you've seen Pate of Jap," he mutters, making a face.
«Ground Combat» Quaid moves into Slit Trench.
Kappedal lets his back rest against the wall of the trench, without realising he's sunk into the mud. Thing don't hurt quite as badly as they will yet; he's just aware, vaguely, of some radiating heat spreading up into his throat and tightening his chest. "Did they get them?"
Enders comes back with Quaid, moving to the squad, "We got the Runner. No injuries, Boston here almost smacked into the Jap." He says, moving to the trench

Slayback lays silently on the trench floor, blood seeping from several different plays.
Woods nods. "Alright, I'm gonna find someone to send out as a runner since I don't have the radio with me. Sound good? We need a jeep and some stretchers. Or talk to one of the tank boys. Be back. Signal if you see anything," Although Woods looks relieved as the last two return. With that, he's off to find a runner or one of the tank men.
«Ground Combat» Quaid reloads Slayback's BAR M1918A2!
"Jesus, you boys got it pretty bad," Quaid mutters. He rummages around his pockets, tosses a BAR mag to Slayback. Just in case.
Slayback smirks on the ground and a BAR mag lands pings against his helmet, "Yeah, probably because I said Hirohito was my bitch." He snickers then grunts.
Quaid glances north, towards the ocean. Just in case.
Tavua looks to the west, well it is only a few hundred yards to his doorstep, fancy that!
Woods is able to find someone to call for a Jeep, but it's going to have to meet them at the other side of the river, back where their trench is.
Quaid glances at Kappedal, frowns. To Woods, "How bad's Ben hit, Vinny? Hey, look on the bright side, doesn't smell like shit today."
Kappedal finds Quaid's comment about shit ridiculously funny, bursting into a cough of pained laughter that turns to coughing. Fuck, that hurts. He lets his head rest back, focusing on breathing through his tightening chest.
Tavua gives a little smirk to the Marines, offering a little nod to Woods as he moves westwards to get out of their hair, and do some homework.
«Ground Combat» Tavua moves out of Slit Trench.
Woods comes running back, panting. "Hey! We have to get to our trench, there'll be a jeep there to meet us, get these two back." He grins at the shit comment though. He smiles at Tavua, and waves. ~Fishing sometime~ he remembers! He moves to help Slayback up, "C'mon buddy. And Benny's hit in the chest, pretty bad I think. Best not to play with chest wounds anyway." Nod.

Quaid turns his attention away from the sea for a moment. He rummages in a pocket, pulls out his aid kit. "Hey. Hey, Ben. How bad are you? Want my morphine syrette?"
Tavua heads off West.
Kappedal shakes his head, sucking in a breath through his teeth. "No morphine…for chest hit. Slows breathing." His brain's working just fine at least. "Just get back."
Slayback stands up with assisstance from Vince, reavealing the bullet holes in his leg, chest, and hand. He coughs and wheezes, "Y-yeah…let's get…out of here."
"Fine," Quaid says. "Alright, uh, I guess we better get you outta here so we can load you in a Jeep. Don't think they'll be setting up the aid station here just for you, Ben. You need another compress? Don't fuckin' bleed out on me, Ben."
Kappedal laughs again. It's louder in his head than what comes out, which is more of a wheeze. He grabs hold of Quaid's arm, squishing a foot in the mud to get up. Jeep.
"Alright," Quaid says. He's stronger than he looks, being a skinny guy and all, but manages to support Kappedal's weight enough so they can stand. "You just keep your hand on your chest." He glances around the man's back for an exit wound. His free hand has a compress ready just in case.
Woods chuckls as Kappedal laughs, "Yeah, Ben." He is worried and smiles at the medic. He supports Slayback and looks to Lars, "C'mon, Lars. Let's get you out here. No sense bleeding out." He grunts softly, since Slayback is a bit bigger than he is. To the jeep! "I mean, I'm no doctor but blood is like, important." Yeah.
Slayback shakes his head at Woods, "No thank you, Mister President, you can keep your wheelchair." He's…in a bit of a daze.
