Background
David MacPherson was born in the port town of Port Chalmers in Otago on the South Island of New Zealand in the autumn of 1890, the son of a dock worker. He proved to have a keen intellect, and went to the University of Otago in Dunedin, studying mathematics. But then he decided to join the ANZAC forces, and is now finding himself in Gallipoli.
Pvt MacPherson died in May 1915, in the Turkish trench as he tried taking out a machine gune.
