Belleau Wood Part 9

After a week, the 7th have had enough, and are forced to withdraw, having been expended, fruitlessly, in their week of assaults. The French corps to which the Americans are attached repeats the order to capture the woods however, and so the marines, after having a week off, are brought forward to the front lines again.

On the 23rd June, 1918, the marines are back on the offensive. Minimal gains are made, but the marines suffer horrendous losses in the process. At the end of the day the woods are choked with corpses - 200 ambulances are needed to evacuate the wounded.
